Dr. Cohen enjoys treating both amateur and professional athletes for mental toughness, concentration, visualization, strategy mechanisms, increased self esteem and short and long term goal setting.
Dr. Cohen is an avid tennis player and has won many National Championships. He won National Father-Daughter Championship Titles with his daughter Julia, and National Father-Son Championships with his son, Josh. "I feel very lucky to have such wonderful children who take the time to play tennis and bond with me. Since they are world class tennis players it is a bonus to win the tournaments with them."
Dr. Cohen was formerly #1 in the Middle States region in all junior categories before he played tennis for the University of Pennsylvania and then went on to Temple University Medical School.
While Dr. Cohen attended medical school and completed his residency at Albert Einstein Hospital, he also coached the Men's Varsity Tennis Team at La Salle University. Dr. Cohen states, "Although we were not a tennis power house, I am very proud of the fact that my team had the highest GPA in the college and that 60% of the team went on to medical school."
Dr. Cohen has been ranked in seven Middle States Section tennis categories including #1 in the 30's and 50's age divisions, and #2 in the 40's and 60's age divisions. At a recent tennis banquet at Green Valley Country Club, he received awards for being ranked #1 in the 50's and 60's age divisions in the Greater Philadelphia District.

Richard W. Cohen, MD, Psychiatrist with his own practice, has been named a 2018 Top Doctor in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Richard W. Cohen is a vastly experienced psychiatrist who has been in practice for almost 40 years. His long and distinguished career in psychiatry began in 1977 when he graduated from the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He then completed his residency at the Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was named chief resident, before entering private practice. He also taught at Jefferson medical college where he was an assistant professor in psychiatry, family medicine, and otolaryngology. He edited a textbook at Jefferson on alcoholism and published on agoraphobia with world-famous psychiatrist Dr. Joseph Wolpe.
Dr. Cohen is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a renowned expert in sports psychiatrist. Dr. Cohen has written many peer-reviewed medical papers in his field, and he has also lectured across America on subjects including mental toughness and sports psychology. He was inducted into the Philadelphia Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with honors where he was a member of Ivy League Championship Teams in tennis and squash. He has won 14 united states national championships in tennis. He was the recent co-lead speaker at the United States professional tennis association’s annual conference. His expertise and dedication as a psychiatrist make Dr. Richard W. Cohen a very worthy winner of a 2018 Top Doctor Award.
